What’s Growing In Your Garden?

The gardenias, pictured below, are blowing my mind. They are stunning and smell out of this world. I am in such awe that they are growing in my garden.

A few months ago, I went to the nursery looking to spruce up my garden with some succulents. Succulents are very popular right now, and they require very little care. They actually thrive in dry dirt. So they are a great choice if you want something beautiful but don’t want to fuss much with gardening.

I wasn’t shopping for a gardenia tree.

But, I was perusing the nursery and I figured I would check out the shade-loving plants, as I had recently dug up a small side yard in the shade.

And there it was…in all of its glory.

A beautiful, tall gardenia tree. It was magnificent, and it was calling out to me. I smelled one of the flowers and knew that this tree would be perfect growing right outside my kitchen window, where I could see and smell it.

I read a little bit about the plant, and I found they required a little more effort than the succulents I was purchasing.

But, I HAD TO HAVE THIS TREE.

And, there I was turning the tree on its side to fit it into my tiny fiat. You know, I love tiny things. And, that’s one of the reasons I love this tree. The flowers are dainty and small with fragrance bursting out of them.

I brought it home and planted it right outside the kitchen window. I fortified the soil with a nutrient-rich additive that the nursery suggested, and I hoped it would be a perfect spot for this perfect specimen to thrive.

One of my neighbors spotted the tree and proceeded to tell me how she has tried to grow gardenias and that they are very finicky, and she’s never had luck. I nodded my head at her thinking to myself that’s not going to be my story.

I had all but forgotten about my little tree, until I noticed it the other day from the kitchen window. It was finally tall enough that I could see it without bending my neck for a glance.

And, lo and behold…it was blooming all over! It is glorious. It’s overflowing with ripening buds and milky white flowers.

I immediately picked a few blooms and floated them in water in my house, subtly filling the house with the sweet smell of gardenia.

Life, God and Gardens

And it got me thinking about life, God and gardens.

What do you have growing in your garden? (and when I write garden, I am really alluding to our mind and soul.)

Are you fostering positive thoughts? Or are you mired down in negativity?

Are you strengthening your faith with spiritual readings or meditations? Or are you stuck in fear…fear of not having enough, fear of what people might think about you, fear of speaking your truth?

Are you surrounding yourself with people who build you up and raise your vibration? Or are you drowning in negative energy, taking on others’ problems or low vibe?

Are you feeding your soul…doing whatever it is that lights you on fire? Or are you wishing that someday you might?

I planted that gardenia tree without a doubt that it was going to thrive. I honestly haven’t paid much attention to it, until it poked its little leaves in through my window beckoning me to come out and celebrate its beauty.

It’s funny…this little gardenia tree makes me feel rich and opulent. It feels divine having these gorgeous flowers floating in a pretty bowl in my home.

It’s that simple really…just taking a few blooms and floating them in bowl, making me feel like I have the most decadent life.
